WWI lasted 4 years 1914-1918 around 202.2-22 million people died
The chain of events that even started what would later become WWI was the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Ferdinand and his pregnant wife were murdered by 19 year old Gavrilo Princip. after that diffrent nations around the world got involved and formed the central and allied powers. Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire, formed what was named the central powers while Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan, and the United States made up the allied powers. During the war there were many new inventions used to fight the war. For examples both sides of the war started using Trench Warfare. Warfare in which both opposing sides attack, counterattack, and defend from the other side. Machine guns were used in masses for the very first time. The machine guns used at the time were based of Hiram Maxims 1884 design. He is mostly known for the guy that made the first easily portable fully automatic weapon. After 4 years the war came to an end with a treaty called the Treaty of Versailles. Germany formally surrendered and all nations had agreed to stop fighting while negotiating how to settle in peace. on June 28th 1919, Germany and the allied nations signed the Treaty of Versailles, formally ending the war. In the end approximately around 22 million people died, with around 40 million causalities.
